Article 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 introduces transparency obligations for providers and deployers of certain AI systems. For deployers who publish AI-generated or manipulated visual content, the visible disclosure duties apply from 2 August 2026.

Provider machine-readable marking has a grace period to 2 December 2026 — that does not remove a deployer's duty to show visible labels at first exposure.

No. Metadata and C2PA are useful upstream signals, but Article 50(5) requires the information to be clear and distinguishable at first exposure. Users don't read metadata — a visible label on the content is what the rule points at.
